5 Easy Tips to Shed a Few Extra Pounds

Written by Tony Martin

The holiday season is a time when most people tend to let go, throwing caution to the wind. Overspending on credit cards, overindulging on alcohol and just eating a bit too much are some of the outcomes. Come January/February and we get a huge shock when we see the credit card bill, or step on the bathroom scale. I can't help you with the credit card bill, but can help loose those extra pounds.

One true fact about weight loss is 'No Pain, No Gain' or maybe that should be no pain no loss. There is no quick fix when it comes to shedding off those pounds regardless of what medical remedies may say. Your body weight doesn't just consist of fat, some of the weight is water weight while some is muscle but we are all mostly concerned about weight due to fat which unfortunately is the hardest to loose. Water weight is relatively easy to loose which is also why some of these remedies or drugs that claim to help you loose weight in a matter of days are most likely false. You might loose weight when you check the bathroom scale but is it really fat you're loosing?....Read more »

If It Isn't Fun, It Isn't Success

Michael liked earning $280,000 a year. But everything else about his job stunk: the 90-hour weeks; the pressure; his boss. Yes, the pay was good. But as Michael said, "It takes a big chunk of cheese to keep a rat running this maze day after day."

Occasionally he thought about quitting - just walking away. Then he would remind himself of all his responsibilities. The lease on his Manhattan apartment. The payments on his Jaguar. The monthly service on his six platinum credit cards - they constantly stayed near the max.

Even his therapist was a necessary expense. Dr. Eck was the only thing keeping him sane.

Then one day, his accountant jokingly remarked how lucky he was that Michael was not an artist. If Michael were just a painter, his expenses would drop nearly to zero, and he wouldn't need an accountant.

A few bucks for paints, canvas, brushes and turps - a bicycle for transportation - maybe a loft somewhere in Jersey. Even clothes from a recycle shop.....Read more »

Getting to Joy

AXIOM 1: The kind of thoughts that fill your mind will create the same kind of events to fill your life.

AXIOM 2: Joy feels good, and it's safe.

Those two items are all the theory we're going to need for this lesson. The remaining 1,667 words will be how-to.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "Man is what he thinks about all day long."

And best-selling author Dr. Joseph Murphy, in his landmark book "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind," wrote:

"Whatever thoughts, beliefs, opinions, theories, or dogmas you write, engrave, or impress on your subconscious mind, you will experience them as the objective manifestation of circumstances, conditions, and events. What you write on the inside, you will experience on the outside."

Teachers continually remind us that we should think about what we want. They tell us that if we spend our time fixated on what we don't want, or what we're afraid of, we'll get more of the bad stuff and less of the good.....Read more »

5 Important Tips for Anxiety Relief

Written by John Stark

Worry and anxiety self-help tip #1: Accept uncertainty

The inability to tolerate uncertainty plays a huge role in anxiety and worry. Chronic worriers can’t stand doubt or unpredictability. They need to know with 100 percent certainty what’s going to happen. Worrying is seen as a way to predict what the future has in store, a way to prevent unpleasant surprises and control the outcome. The problem is, it doesn’t work.

Thinking about all the things that could go wrong doesn’t make life any more predictable. You may feel safer when you’re worrying, but it’s just an illusion. Focusing on worst-case scenarios won’t keep bad things from happening. It will only keep you from enjoying the good things you have in the present. So if you want to stop worrying, start by tackling your need for certainty and immediate answers.

Challenging intolerance of uncertainty: The key to anxiety relief....Read more »

How to Easily Overcome Your Fears in less than 10 minutes

Written by Noelynn Jones

Lets clarify what I mean by fears. One dictionary definition states 'be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about a possible or probable situation or event; "I fear she might get aggressive".'

It's a combination of a feeling and thought that you have about an unknown situation based on your belief or preconceptions of what might happen in the future. It can be based on a previous bad experience or from listening to others.

In some situations the feeling of fear that you get is an instinctive response to a threatening situation, your intuition telling you that something is not right and that you need to be wary or even remove yourself from the situation. Sometimes described as the fight or flight response. This is a positive use for fear as it protects you from harm.....Read more »

Lose Weight and Keep It Off By Watching TV. It's Not A Fantasy!

Have you had it with dieting? Do you lose a couple of pounds, and gain back more? Do you get your hopes up whenever a "miracle" diet arrives on the scene, only to find out that you still are not able to beat your cravings?

What you really need is a diet where you lose weight by sitting and watching TV. Think it's a fantasy? Go on and keep reading.

You have read and heard the statistics: Society is getting fatter than any time in history. From young to old, the stats tell the tale: Obesity is endemic. Why?

There are plenty of explanations, but here is one that you probably have not heard: We have been programmed, hypnotized--if you will--to purchase and consume more and larger portions of everything, chiefly junk food, sugary soft drinks and fast food.

How did this happen? What could possibly have such a powerful, insidious effect on so many millions of people? The answer is sitting in your living room. It's your TV.

Yes, advertisers have slowly and methodically hypnotized you. They market their empty calories using the most potent and effective advertising medium ever created: TV commercials.....Read more »

The Power of Authenticity

Written by Mike Robbins

How often do you not say or do something because you’re worried about how it’ll be perceived? For most of us, myself included, this happens all the time - more often than we’d like to admit.

We live in a culture that’s starving for authenticity. We want our leaders, our co-workers, our family members, our friends, and everyone else we interact with to tell us the truth and to be themselves. Most important, we want to have the personal freedom and confidence to say, do, and be who we really are, without worrying so much about how we appear to others and what they might think or say about us.....Read more »

Iron-Clad Confidence

"He just oozed confidence."

That's the way a long-time friend described Aristotle Onassis when he was just a teenager.

Some people are late bloomers. They don't gain much real confidence till they are well into adulthood.

But there are also early bloomers - Onassis was one.

During World War One, his father was arrested by the German occupation forces, and it was young Aristotle who went to the German commandant and negotiated a bribe for the release of his father.

But his father, once released, continually criticized his son for paying far too much money. So young Ari left home. He didn't just run across town to hide out in a friend's house, however.

No, he went all the way from Greece to South America... though only in his twenties. And made good.

So good, in fact, that he eventually became one of the richest, most powerful men on earth.

Now, we all know that money isn't everything. Life is a complex mix; it takes many different qualities to make up a human being.....Read more »
